Works from the group exhibition Interwoven Existences –The Poetry of Nature, January–March 2025.

Alisha Dutt Islam’s Common Grounds series revolves around the migration of plants, focusing particularly on neophytes—non-native species that have become deeply rooted in foreign landscapes. Over the past decade, Dutt Islam has explored the relationship between these plants and the environments they inhabit, specifically examining Asian species that have taken root in Swiss landscapes. The series features the Chinese Windmill Palm (Trachycarpus fortunei) of Ticino. Each work is overlaid with brown pigment derived from Swiss soil mixed with water, connecting the plants to the landscapes in which they have taken root. The works focus on plant roots and their connections to new surroundings, reflecting on migration, movement, roots, and the relationship between plants and their environments.
